Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

The Women’s Contact Society (host agency for CCRR services), is a registered affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for Williams Lake and surrounding areas.  Children between the ages of 0 and 5 years old receive a “free”, age-appropriate book each month, by mail, thanks to generous donations from the Women’s Contact Society, CCRR (province of BC), the Williams Lake Credit Union and private donors.
After Dolly implemented some early incentives and her Library program in her hometown in Tennessee, school drop out rates fell from 34% to 6% and remain at 6% today.  Many families in Dolly Parton’s hometown lived in rural areas and below the poverty line which affected children’s success entering and attending school.  Dolly introduced this program to give all children between the ages of 0 and 5 years old, equal access and opportunity to books to increase their changes of success in school.
Children who become comfortable handling books have higher confidence and greater success in school.
